I do not know a lot about sports in China (or sports anywhere really) so this was very informative. It was a little difficult for someone like me to understand the sports jargon but other than that I liked it. I thought it was interesting that Li Na had to give her own money to system in order to play. You would think that it would be the exact opposite, or at least it seems to be in the United States (with men's sports).
There is much debate on Chai Ling in China, the significant features are around her statements and actions in June Fourth Movement. Although many media and people speak for her and she also try to defend herself, she really said that “what we are actually hoping for is bloodshed… …Only when the Square is awash with blood will the people of China open their eyes.” But we do not know the truth for her actions and words, and I agree with you that perhaps only Chai Ling herself knows the motivations behind her actions.
